All you need to know about DTU

Delhi technological University

So , if you are reading this, probably you are an aspirant imagining the life here or a student of Dtu appreciating the facts or else student of other universities and is here to compare and wondering how  it is to spend time and be there at a place like Dtu.

Your mind must be having various questions like what does it take to get there, how would you get to pursue your dreams and do things you love and how much exam and study pressure you have to face.

How much marks/rank would I need?
So I will be answering all of them one by one. Lets start with how much marks/rank would you need to get into the college. Well the answer is it depends, it depend on what you want to go for, like you really need a high score for getting computer science as your major and on the other hand you would get engineering physics with a average score as well. You can check out this link for previous year cutoff click_here and you could get a good idea how much rank you will be needing as the criteria basically doesn’t change much.
What makes you grow here in the campus is ‘the social life’ you’re having here! And that’ll be your own choice by being a part of any society you like.

Which societies to join?
Well it all depends on your personal preferences. If you love music you got music society, you got a dramatical society(which is one of the best on the campus) , if you love cricket you can get into the cricket team as well. But these societies usually test your skills first , for example to get into cricket society you got to give a trial for the same. If you want to go into dramatical society then you have to clear 3-4 rounds to get selected.
Here is a list of some of the some the official societies:-

Technical
  • IEEE
  • CSI
  • IET
  • ASME

Cultural -
  • Parchayi - Photography
  • Pratibimb - Dramatics

There is also a Google Developer Group.

  •  Nrityangana DTU - The semi-classical & classical dance society
  •  DTU Bhangra
  •  DTU DanceSoc - The western dance society

Social
  •  Enactus DTU
  •  NSS DTU

If you want to do something other than these then still you don’t have to worry about. As there are enormous amount of unofficial societies as well and if still you don’t find any then you can start one of you own which is not that difficult as well but yea it would require lot of determination and passion to do the publications and marketing of the societies.

Usual day at DTU.
So let me tell you how a usual day in DTU goes. It starts with classes which usually starts at 9-10am and sometimes even at 8am but if class starts at 8 then still people come till 8:45 and even later than that and teachers are also cool about it, they know how it is to be there. Usually none listen to what teacher is teaching and they are having some other stuff sitting at the back benches. But some teacher teaches really really good so you will yourself want to put all other stuff aside and want to listen to them.
Most of the student don’t attend much classes either as there is no issue of attendance. Officially you would need around 75% of attendance but thats on papers only.
Usually there is 1-2 hours long gaps in between the classes in which we probably sleep or roam around in the beautiful yards of the campus we have. In winters people usually lay down on grasses at OAT(below is the picture of OAT) and play UNO or some other card games.

And in summers everyone runs towards library to get cold breezes from the Acs.
Then later in the evening, various societies become active(usually after 5pm) , then you can go there, meet new people and do what you love.
And again in the morning you got classes!
And this vicious cycle continues…

Exam and Studies pressure
Till now you must be a competitive person, being among top students in your respective schools and must have dreamed of IITs. But it all change when you come here. In short you wont regret your decision ever!!
There is not much pressure related to studies. Students usually start their syllabus a week before for mid semesters and around 15 days before finals, and you would pass it on easily for sure. But yea the competition will still be there and as the college years proceeds it will increase as well. Its probably because almost all the students who join the college is among the toppers of their schools so it comes natural to them.
But yea, its not like you will not study at all. Its just that you would not spend much time in reading those courses textbooks and will have a zeal to learn new technologies. As you dive deeper the more you will find newer stuff.

Overall picture
Overall you would love the life of Dtu and its culture , there are various fests which goes even longer than a month in even semester. And you would make too many friends all around with whom you will love to spend time with and will remain in touch hopefully forever. There is not much pressure towards studies by teachers or by anyone else but you yourself will do it well for sure. And because of long list of active societies you can pursue your dream and could do things which you love the most. And about placement, DTU is one of the best placement provider institute, if not the best. So your career is in safe hands if you make a choice of joining and be a part of this amazing community.

I hope you got to know what you were wondering about, if not then feel free to ask questions. You can email me if you have any queries related to anything about the college or some advice at sainirajat500@icloud.com
